The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly rejected allegations made by a warring party in Sudan during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, calling the claims false and baseless.
Speaking at the session, Shahad Matar, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN and other International Organisations in Geneva, said that the Sudanese party had failed to carry out impartial investigations or ensure real accountability.
She stated that the same party is facing accusations of committing war crimes against its own people. According to Matar, the group has also undermined regional and international efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
The UAE representative further highlighted that the warring party has been linked to documented human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law inside Sudan.
“This is merely the latest failed attempt to lecture this hall on the rule of law,” Matar said during her address.
The remarks come amid continued international concern over the humanitarian and security situation in Sudan, as global bodies call for accountability and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
