The Sharjah Press Club (SPC) continued its series of engaging discussions on Thursday, hosting a session on “Human Behaviour: Values and Beliefs.” The event featured Dr. Khalid Ghattas, a writer and social media content creator, and took place in Aljada as part of the 14th edition of the Ramadan Majlis. The session was moderated by TV host Reem Saif. During the discussion, they explored how upbringing, social influences, and digital culture affect both individual and group behaviour.
A key topic during the talk was the growing impact of social media and the online world. Dr. Ghattas explained how the environment we grow up in plays a big role in shaping our behaviour. He also stressed the importance of raising awareness about promoting good values within society.
Dr. Ghattas discussed how today’s society often values perception more than authenticity. He pointed out that many people focus more on how they are seen by others, rather than being true to themselves. This can cause a gap between who people really are and the image they show online.

Another important theme was the rise of individualism. Many people today rely mostly on their own judgement instead of looking to their communities for advice and wisdom. While independence is important, Dr. Ghattas reminded the audience that human nature thrives on connections with others. When people become too isolated, it can lead to problems with social interaction and identity. He called for a return to religious values to help guide human behaviour in a more positive direction.
The conversation also touched on parenting in today’s world, where children are exposed to digital content at a very young age. Dr. Ghattas emphasized the need for a balance between traditional parenting and the influence of technology. He also discussed how managing emotions is key to developing patience, finding happiness, and keeping good mental health.
The session sparked a lively discussion among the audience about how to maintain strong ethical values in a world dominated by technology. Many people in the audience shared their thoughts on the important role of family in teaching children to separate what they see online from the real world.
In addition to the main session, the Ramadan Majlis also featured a special side session with Adnan Safar, the founder of the UAE-based brand ‘Mara’. He shared the story of how he turned his small food kiosk into a successful business with several locations across the UAE. He talked about the challenges and opportunities of running a business and encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace change, take risks, and remain flexible in an ever-changing market.
The Ramadan Majlis event was sponsored by the Mohamed Hilal Group and also included fun activities and competitions for attendees.
The event will conclude on Monday with the session “Family and Raising Future Generations,” which will feature well-known Islamic scholar Mostafa Hosny and be moderated by media professional Abdulraouf Amira.
