Australian fast bowler Scott Boland has made it clear that he has nothing to prove as he prepares for the upcoming 2025 Ashes series against England. After a tough experience in the 2023 series, where he took only two wickets for 231 runs in two Tests, Boland says he is focused on the future and not the past. The new Ashes series begins in Perth on November 21, and the 36-year-old paceman is confident about showing his best form once again on home soil.
Boland’s journey in the Ashes has had its highs and lows. In the 2021–22 home Ashes series, he became an instant star by taking 18 wickets, including an unforgettable debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where he claimed seven wickets in one Test. However, his 2023 Ashes performance in England did not go as planned. Despite that disappointment, Boland remains calm and motivated. He says he has learned important lessons from that series and is now more prepared to handle the pressure that comes with playing at the top level.
Speaking to reporters, Boland explained that he is not out to prove anything to critics or rivals. “I believe in my own skills. I am a proud cricketer, and every time I play, I want to give my best,” he said. He added that setbacks are part of the learning process and that every challenge helps him grow stronger. This mindset, according to Boland, keeps him grounded and focused on his goals. Rather than looking for outside validation, he wants to measure success by his own effort and consistency.
Australia’s fast bowling attack is among the strongest in the world, featuring names like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood. Boland has often had to wait for his turn in this star-studded lineup. However, with Cummins recovering from a back injury, Boland may get the chance to start the first Test in Perth. His recent form supports his case—he took eight wickets in Victoria’s Sheffield Shield victory over New South Wales. Boland said that he feels fit and ready after spending time in the gym and doing rehabilitation work. If required, he is prepared to play all five Tests of the series.
Boland emphasized that team spirit is his top priority. “Even if I am the 12th man, I still want to contribute,” he said. He believes that every player, whether on the field or on the bench, has an important role in the team’s success. Boland added that his focus remains on preparation and giving his best effort whenever called upon. His positive attitude and commitment to the team have made him a respected figure in the dressing room.
Outside cricket, Boland is deeply involved in promoting Indigenous participation in the sport. As Australia’s second Indigenous Test player, he takes pride in encouraging young Indigenous talent to pursue cricket. Recently, he helped launch the National Indigenous Cricket Championships with the Melbourne Cricket Club. He also supported a special training camp for Indigenous players at the MCG. Boland praised young fast bowler Brendan Doggett, who could become Australia’s third Indigenous Test player. He said Doggett has “progressed really well” and has the skills to make it to the national team soon.
With his fitness restored, confidence high, and experience guiding him, Boland is looking forward to the 2025 Ashes with determination. He knows the expectations are high, but he is focused on preparation and performance rather than pressure. For Boland, the goal is simple—to give his best for Australia, enjoy the game, and contribute to another memorable Ashes series. Whether bowling under the lights in Perth or cheering from the sidelines, Scott Boland’s spirit and professionalism continue to inspire teammates and fans alike.
