The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is actively participating in the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2025, hosting a wide range of meetings and cultural events to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Latin American countries. The Authority is highlighting Sharjah’s efforts in building knowledge-based communities and promoting culture through dialogue, learning, and public engagement.
During the fair, which continues until December 7, SBA held over 30 meetings with cultural institutions, publishers, and government bodies to identify new collaboration opportunities, share expertise, and support initiatives that expand translation, publishing, and circulation of Arabic content worldwide.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, said the Authority’s international engagement shows Sharjah’s commitment to cultural exchange under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The Spanish edition of His Highness’s book, The Inquisition: An Investigation of Twenty-Three Files of Cases Committed Against Muslims in Andalusia, received notable attention, highlighting appreciation for Sharjah’s cultural project.
SBA met top officials from Chile, Argentina, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Costa Rica to discuss translation programmes, rights exchange, and professional development. Discussions also included leaders from major international book fairs such as Buenos Aires, Monterrey, Bogotá, Centroamérica Cuenta, and New York, exploring future joint initiatives.
The programme included participation in cultural and industry receptions hosted by countries including Canada, Chile, Catalunya, Bologna, and Argentina, along with independent publishing houses. SBA also attended celebrations at Planeta Publishing House and Hachette’s 60th anniversary, strengthening global partnerships and Sharjah’s position as a hub for knowledge, culture, and creative collaboration.
