Saudi Arabia is working on a plan to make its data centers as protected as embassies, according to Finance Minister Mohammed Al Jadaan. This move comes as the country aims to become a global leader in data exports instead of just relying on oil. Al Jadaan emphasized that European and American stakeholders are concerned about the protection of data when it’s moved to other countries. To address this, Saudi Arabia is creating new rules and a regulatory framework to ensure that data centers within the Kingdom receive strong protection.

"Our goal is to treat data centers in Saudi Arabia like embassies, making sure they are completely safe," Al Jadaan explained. He went on to say that Saudi Arabia is taking advantage of its unique position and resources to attract businesses from around the world. "Instead of focusing on exporting oil, we plan to export data," he said. "There will be no need to send energy abroad—they can use it here in Saudi Arabia and later export their data."
This new approach is part of Saudi Arabia's plan to shift its economy away from oil dependence. As part of its Vision 2030 strategy, the country aims to become a leader in the digital and technology industries, building a strong global position in the world of data.
