Russia has confirmed that a high-level dialogue has occurred between Moscow and Washington following the receipt of U.S. suggestions regarding a potential peace settlement in Ukraine. The Kremlin announced on Friday that President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, had engaged in telephone conversations with members of the U.S. administration.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that discussions involved several figures from President Donald Trump’s administration. While he acknowledged the talks, he did not reveal the precise date of the conversation or specifics about the U.S. participants.
These discussions reportedly followed Moscow’s receipt of proposals from the United States outlining possible resolutions to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin has yet to disclose the details of these proposals, nor has it clarified whether it considers them a suitable foundation for negotiations.
Peskov highlighted that diplomatic communications between Russia and the United States persist through various channels, especially regarding strategic matters. He noted that these exchanges should be viewed as part of ongoing efforts to foster dialogue amid the strained relations between the two nations.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine remains a significant source of discord between Moscow and Washington, with both sides frequently expressing differing opinions on security arrangements, territorial disputes, and international assurances. Despite recent engagements possibly indicating a renewed dialogue, officials have refrained from suggesting any immediate breakthroughs.
Currently, the Kremlin asserts that any further actions will depend on thorough analysis of the proposals received, alongside the broader geopolitical context surrounding the conflict.
