Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced road closures for the highly anticipated Dubai Ride, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), which will take place on Sunday, November 10. The event, which encourages residents to cycle past some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, will see tens of thousands of participants, following last year’s successful turnout of over 35,000 riders.
To facilitate the event, RTA has confirmed the closure of several key roads between 3:30am and 10:00am. This includes a portion of Sheikh Zayed Road, which will be closed from the Trade Centre Roundabout to the second bridge. Additionally, lower Financial Centre Road, connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, will be shut, along with one-way directions on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. Organisers are expecting the fifth edition of the event to attract even more participants this year, surpassing previous editions.

In other news, a tragic accident occurred on Emirates Road in Sharjah on Friday when a speeding motorist caused a pile-up involving four vehicles. The crash resulted in injuries to six Emiratis, who suffered moderate to severe injuries. Emergency services, including the Air Wing of the Ministry of Interior’s General Department of Security Support, were quickly dispatched to assist the victims, some of whom were rushed to the hospital. Authorities have attributed the accident to excessive speed and distracted driving. Sharjah Police have issued warnings about the dangers of speeding and urged motorists to remain focused while driving to prevent further accidents.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police have shared a video highlighting a traffic accident caused by distracted driving. The accident occurred when a driver failed to pay attention during a sudden stop in traffic. The police stressed the dangers of using mobile phones for browsing the internet, making calls, or taking photos while driving. These distractions significantly increase the likelihood of serious accidents. Abu Dhabi Police have also warned that such distractions lead to an Dh800 fine and four black points on the driver’s license.
In a related development, the RTA has made significant strides in improving Dubai's road infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to enhance key east-west corridors. The ongoing Al Jamayel Street Development Project is a crucial component of these efforts, alongside other major upgrades like the improvements to Al Yalayis Street and Expo Road. These projects are designed to support Dubai's continuous urban development and to accommodate future traffic growth across the city.
These road upgrades, along with the Dubai Ride event, highlight Dubai's commitment to improving both its infrastructure and the health and wellness of its residents.
