Bridget’s old friend and ex-lover, Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, also makes a return in this movie. In the film, Bridget is trying to balance her work, raising her children, spending time with her friends, and starting to date again. Renee Zellweger said that many people can connect with Bridget’s story because of how real and vulnerable her character is.
“I think a lot of people relate to the challenges Bridget faces,” Zellweger said on the red carpet. She also praised Helen Fielding, the writer, for creating a character that people love, with moments in the story that everyone can understand, no matter how old they are.
Bridget Jones first became popular in 1996 with the release of the book *Bridget Jones’s Diary* by Helen Fielding. The book was about Bridget writing down her personal thoughts, like her weight, drinking habits, and love life. These funny and honest diary entries made Bridget a character many people could relate to. The book was so popular that it turned into a movie, *Bridget Jones’s Diary*, in 2001. This was followed by two more movies, *Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason* in 2004 and *Bridget Jones’s Baby* in 2016.
In this new movie, Bridget, now 51 years old, decides to try dating again. She meets a 29-year-old man named Roxster, played by Leo Woodall. Woodall said that he felt nervous about joining the movie at first but felt comfortable after meeting Zellweger. He described her as “joyful, kind, and a wonderful actress.”
Chiwetel Ejiofor, another actor in the movie, plays one of Bridget’s children’s teachers. Ejiofor, who is known for movies like *12 Years a Slave*, said that being part of the *Bridget Jones* series was an easy choice for him because of how well Zellweger has played Bridget over the years. He said, “Renee has done an amazing job of creating this character. Very few things last for 25 or 30 years.”
The director, Michael Morris, said he would be open to making more *Bridget Jones* movies, but the decision is up to Helen Fielding, the writer.
*Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy* will be in theaters on February 12, 2025. Fans are excited to see what’s next for Bridget and her funny, heartwarming adventures.
