On November 19, 2025, the world celebrated International Men's Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of issues faced by men, including abuse, mental health, homelessness, and suicide. On this occasion, content creator Ravinder Singh shared a post on Instagram that quickly went viral, sparking discussions about the challenges faced by “modern men” in today’s society.
In his post, Singh described men as “super confused” because of the “new rules” that promote gender equality. He explained that while men are trying to evolve, unlearn outdated habits, and understand modern expectations, they are often faced with “mixed signals” that leave them overwhelmed. According to him, men are expected to be gender-neutral in their treatment of others, yet they are also expected to initiate conversations, plan dates, and pay bills. Singh described this situation as one where men are trying to do the right thing but feel burdened by conflicting societal expectations.
Singh also raised concerns about the misuse of women-centric laws, which he believes can sometimes lead to false cases that harm men’s careers and reputations. While acknowledging the importance of gender equality and women’s rights, he highlighted that modern men are not “lost” but “overwhelmed” by the rapidly changing social landscape. His post resonated with many followers, with users praising him for voicing a perspective they felt had been overlooked. One comment read, “Finally, someone said it! Thank you!” while another added, “If I were a woman, I would have given you a tight hug—loads of respect for you!”
India continues to face significant challenges related to gender and safety. The 2023 Women, Peace and Security Index ranked India 128th out of 177 countries. According to the NARI 2025 Report, 40% of women reported feeling unsafe in their cities, and in 2022, there were 4.45 lakh reported cases of crime against women. These statistics show that while gender equality is progressing, there remain serious concerns about safety and social dynamics for women. Singh’s post highlights that men also experience pressures in this changing environment, particularly when trying to navigate dating, social expectations, and legal responsibilities.
International Men’s Day was first celebrated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago by Jerome Teelucksingh, who chose November 19 to honor his father’s birthday. The day aims to encourage discussions about men’s well-being and to promote positive role models, healthy relationships, and awareness of men’s health issues. Singh’s post contributes to this dialogue by drawing attention to the unique pressures modern men face while navigating expectations of gender equality.
In conclusion, Ravinder Singh’s viral post has opened up conversations about how modern men experience confusion and pressure in the age of gender equality. His perspective reminds society that while advancing women’s rights is crucial, it is equally important to acknowledge and support men as they adapt to evolving expectations. Discussions sparked by such posts can encourage mutual understanding and more balanced conversations about gender, relationships, and societal responsibilities.
