During the 20th CITES Conference of the Parties, currently underway in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Qatar has prominently displayed its significant wildlife conservation and environmental protection initiatives. This global event unites nations to discuss the safeguarding of endangered species and the enhancement of worldwide conservation frameworks. Qatar's involvement underscores its dedication to nature conservation and the protection of wildlife for generations to come.
The Qatar Ministry of Environment and Climate Change sent a distinguished delegation headed by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves. Throughout the conference, Dr. Al Muslimani engaged with Mohammed bin Hamad Al Zaheri, Director General of the UAE's International Fund for Houbara Conservation. Their discussions centered on improving collaboration on houbara conservation methods, including breeding programs, release actions, and overall project management for the survival of this vital bird species.
Both parties examined how joint initiatives could enhance scientific inquiry, refine breeding processes, and bolster lasting conservation tactics. They also assessed the advancement of current projects and sought new collaborative opportunities between Qatar and the UAE for the conservation of the houbara, both regionally and locally.
In addition, the Qatari delegation engaged with Andrei Kim, Vice-Chair of South Korea’s forests and wildlife committee, to identify areas of wildlife protection and shared environmental issues. They revealed an eagerness to expand collaboration through technical partnerships, training initiatives, and knowledge exchange, as well as exploring plans for new wildlife conservation projects advantageous to both nations.
Qatar’s presence at the CITES Conference exemplifies its proactive stance in global environmental discussions. The engagements carried out during the event highlight Qatar’s aim to collaborate closely with international stakeholders to safeguard endangered species and advocate for sustainable environmental practices. By fostering ties with countries like the UAE and South Korea, Qatar consistently champions global efforts toward a more balanced and healthier natural ecosystem.
