In a precautionary measure following overnight rainfall, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) has shifted the Qatar Oaks to Sunday at Al Rayyan Racecourse. This decision emphasizes the club's commitment to the safety of all horses, jockeys, and participants involved. Meanwhile, the Qatar International Derby remains on track for Saturday, set to commence at 3:00 p.m., with the Oaks starting at the same hour the next day.
In a bid to uphold international racing regulations, QREC reiterated its dedication to the highest safety standards. Saturday’s Derby will unfold on the turf track at Al Rayyan and features ten races with 16 horses competing for a collective prize pool of USD 1.3 million, capped off by a main race offering USD 500,000.
The highlight of the event is the Qatar Derby for Purebred Thoroughbreds, a prestigious Group 1 international race held over a 2,000-metre distance for three-year-olds. The victor will secure a place in the Al Shafla event, scheduled for the HH The Amir's Sword Festival in February.
QREC remains committed to ensuring that both races provide an exhilarating and well-organized experience while prioritizing safety for all involved.
