In a commendable move, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), in collaboration with World Athletics and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has showcased the launch of the “Aim Beyond” initiative aimed at uplifting youth and underprivileged communities through the transformative power of sport. This development follows a signing ceremony conducted by QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain and QFFD Director General Fahad Hamad Al Sulaiti, graced by the presence of World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon.
The ambitious project will feature the creation of 11 eco-friendly, inclusive running tracks across various nations including Palestine, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Cook Islands, Panama, Anguilla, Dominica, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ukraine. These tracks aim to cater to athletes of all abilities, utilizing sustainable materials in harmony with Qatar’s commitment to development and community enrichment.
Through this project, Qatar demonstrates its firm belief in the role of sport as a catalyst for peace, unity, and social advancement. The newly developed tracks are set to not only enhance the skills of young athletes but also become community hubs that foster equality and a sense of belonging. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain emphasized that the Aim Beyond initiative aims to empower athletes to surpass their limits, reminiscent of Qatar’s achievements during the Doha 2019 World Athletics Championships, ensuring this sporting legacy inspires generations to come.
Fahad Hamad Al Sulaiti, the QFFD Director General, noted that the initiative will unlock new opportunities for youth by providing accessible facilities to nurture talent and build promising futures. World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon pointed out that many communities harbor talent but are hindered by inadequate facilities; Aim Beyond will bridge this gap through robust partnerships. This initiative aims to extend the legacy of the Doha 2019 championships far beyond Qatar, supporting young athletes globally.
