PPG (NYSE: PPG) has joined forces with Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) to launch a significant tree-planting initiative, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. This project forms part of PPG’s wider vision to contribute to greener, healthier urban environments and support Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals.
More than 80 PPG employees, alongside their family members, volunteered to plant 500 native and climate-resilient trees—primarily Ghaf and Neem—within the vicinity of PPG’s Aerospace Application Support Center in JAFZA. The selected site, surrounded by busy roads and industrial infrastructure, benefits from this greening effort through improved air quality, additional shaded areas, and enhanced biodiversity.
“At PPG, we believe in translating our commitment to sustainability into tangible actions,” said Olga Kolevatova, General Manager, Middle East, Egypt, and Caspian region. “By working closely with JAFZA and engaging our employees and their families, we are directly contributing to the well-being of the communities where we operate and supporting Dubai’s green ambitions for future generations.”
The initiative, which marks the first private-sector tree-planting program in JAFZA, was conducted in close coordination with the Free Zone authorities. JAFZA will manage post-planting irrigation and long-term maintenance to ensure the trees thrive. The project was inaugurated by Hamad Al Sayegh, Vice President of Customer Care, JAFZA.
“This collaboration highlights the positive impact private companies can have on creating sustainable industrial zones,” said Al Sayegh. “PPG’s leadership in launching this initiative sets an important benchmark and aligns perfectly with our mission to develop greener, more environmentally responsible industrial areas in Dubai.”
Jean-Francois Lemaire, PPG Director, Middle East, Sub-Indian Continent, Central Asia, and Türkiye, Aerospace Coatings, added, “Planting trees in a highly industrial area underlines our commitment to making a meaningful environmental impact and honoring our responsibility toward the communities hosting our operations.”
Globally, PPG engages in numerous community initiatives through the PPG Foundation, contributing more than $18.4 million in 2024 to hundreds of organizations across over 30 countries. These efforts focus on education, especially in STEM, and encourage employees to participate in volunteer activities, amplifying their social impact. By investing in sustainable communities, PPG supports the growth of tomorrow’s innovators while enhancing environmental well-being.
PPG, headquartered in Pittsburgh, has been developing paints, coatings, and specialty products for over 140 years, operating in more than 50 countries. In 2025, the company reported net sales of $15.9 billion, serving construction, industrial, consumer, and transportation markets globally.
