Team India's triumphant return from Barbados to Delhi on Thursday morning marked the beginning of their celebratory journey in Mumbai after clinching the T20 World Cup 2024. The city erupted in festivities as Rohit Sharma and his team were honored at Wankhede Stadium, followed by a spirited victory parade along Marine Drive. Thousands of jubilant fans gathered to commemorate India's historic ICC event victory after an 11-year gap.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a breakfast for the world champions at his residence, engaging in a lively interaction with players and coaching staff. According to reports from the Indian Express, PM Modi humorously asked Rohit Sharma about the taste of mud, referencing Sharma's unique celebration in Barbados where he sampled some sand from the ground to mark India's memorable win.

During his conversation with star batsman Virat Kohli, PM Modi inquired about Kohli's mindset before the final match against South Africa. Despite a modest tournament performance with the bat, Kohli's pivotal 76-run innings in the final earned him the Player of the Match award. India faced early setbacks in the final, losing three quick wickets with only 34 runs on the board. However, the strategic decision to promote Axar Patel to number five paid off, as he and Kohli forged a crucial 72-run partnership, setting a defendable target of 176/7.
PM Modi also engaged with Axar Patel about his emotions batting higher up the order in such a critical match. Additionally, he discussed the nerve-wracking final overs with bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Bumrah, seeking insights into their approach during South Africa's chase.
At the Wankhede felicitation ceremony, Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude to the Mumbai crowd and cricket enthusiasts for their unwavering support. "Mumbai never fails to deliver. We received an incredible reception. On behalf of the team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the fans. I am immensely happy and relieved," Rohit remarked during the celebratory event.
