On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's largest bi-lane tunnel, named the Sela Tunnel, located at an altitude of 13,000 feet. This strategically significant infrastructure project aims to ensure uninterrupted connectivity to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, regardless of challenging weather conditions. During the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the tunnel, referring to it as part of "Modi Ki Guarantee," which promises enhanced development and connectivity in the Northeast region. The Sela Tunnel project, with a total investment of INR 825 crore, encompasses two roads spanning a combined length of 8.6 kilometers. It has been designed to accommodate around 3000 cars and up to 2000 trucks daily, with a speed limit set at 80 km/hr. The primary tunnel stretches 980 meters, while an additional 1.5 km long secondary tunnel serves as an emergency exit route. Given its strategic location near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Sela Tunnel holds immense significance, facilitating year-round access to Tawang and other frontier areas adjacent to China.
In addition to the inauguration of the Sela Tunnel, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a series of developmental projects worth INR 55,600 crore in the Northeast region. These projects span various states, including Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the region's infrastructure development, aimed at enhancing connectivity, promoting economic growth, and fostering regional integration. The inauguration of the Sela Tunnel was symbolized by the flagging off of an Arunachal Pradesh State Transport bus passing through it, signaling the commencement of seamless connectivity in the region. Overall, the unveiling of development projects, with a focus on infrastructure and connectivity, underscores the government's commitment to the holistic development of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast region as a whole.
