Marking Oman Day, the National Museum of Oman has inaugurated a unique exhibition titled “The Splendor of Silver: Collections from the Omani Court” at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Minsk, Belarus. This event underscores the evolving cultural relationship between Oman and Belarus, aiming to deepen cooperation and friendship. Visitors can explore the exhibition until March 18, 2026.
Omani silver, a cornerstone of the nation’s traditional crafts, takes center stage in the exhibition. It showcases exquisite artifacts once owned by the sultans of Muscat and Zanzibar, emphasizing the significance of silver in both royal customs and everyday Omani life, representing beauty, protection, and the artistry that has been cherished through the ages.
The opening ceremony, chaired by Her Highness Dr. Mona bint Fahd Al Said, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange in fostering understanding between Oman and Belarus. She noted that these cultural events pave the way for new avenues of cooperation, bridging communities through shared art and heritage.
The exhibition comprises five distinct sections, focusing on the Omani dagger, perfume culture, silversmithing, traditional garments, and elite fashion. Attendees can discover the cultural significance of the Omani dagger, view historical perfume bottles from the beginnings of Amouage, and examine silver jewelry once used for adornment and economic security.
A section dedicated to clothing showcases traditional and elite garments, some connected to Oman’s historical ties with East Africa. These displays offer insights into Oman’s rich cultural tapestry and illustrate the connections between its art, history, and daily life. By promoting Oman’s heritage through museum diplomacy and artistic collaborations, the exhibition enhances cultural ties on a global scale.
