Oman's national carrier, Oman Air, has undertaken a strategic overhaul of its destinations and flight frequencies to enhance its financial performance. The airline disclosed that it has canceled operations to Islamabad, Lahore, Colombo, and Chittagong. However, it has expanded its network by including the Pakistani city of Sialkot.
In the context of its Indian routes, Oman Air plans to reduce frequencies to specific markets while concurrently increasing capacity to two existing destinations, namely Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram.
Notably, SalamAir, another Omani airline, had previously announced the resumption of flights to five key Indian cities in November 2023: Hyderabad, Calicut, Jaipur, Trivandrum, and Lucknow. These flights had been halted due to restrictions on flight rights allocations to India.
Given the geographical proximity and the substantial South Asian diaspora employed in Gulf countries, air routes connecting the Gulf and the Indian Subcontinent are among the busiest.
Oman Air further outlined that three destinations—Trabzon during the summer season, and Zurich and Malé during winter—will be operated on a seasonal basis, responding to the demand for passenger traffic during specific periods.
The airline has implemented measures to optimize its schedule, effective from the upcoming summer. Flight times have been adjusted for several destinations to better cater to the Omani market. The emphasis is on providing more favorable slots for direct passengers, maximizing connection windows, and improving overall convenience.
Oman Air expressed its commitment to a strategic approach that adapts to evolving market dynamics and seizes opportunities to ensure maximum benefits for the country's economy and social objectives. This comprehensive strategy underscores the airline's dedication to staying responsive to changing market conditions while maintaining a focus on economic and societal benefits for Oman.
