UAE to send 300 tonnes of food to Gaza via three flights for Ramadan aid

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is sending 300 tonnes of essential food supplies to Gaza as part of an aid mission during Ramadan. The food will be delivered on three separate flights over the next three days, providing much-needed support to Palestinian families facing tough times.

The first batch of aid, which includes 100 tonnes of staple foods such as flour, rice, and cooking essentials, was loaded onto a plane at Fujairah International Airport on Friday. This aircraft is scheduled to fly to Al Arish in Egypt, where the supplies will be transported into Gaza.

Two additional planes, each carrying another 100 tonnes of food, will take off from Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday and Sunday as part of this humanitarian mission.

Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and prayer, is expected to begin on March 1. However, the exact date will be confirmed based on the sighting of the crescent moon. This year, Ramadan comes at a difficult time, as a fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel remains in place. Meanwhile, there is strong opposition from many countries, including the UAE, to proposals that could displace Palestinians from Gaza.

During a recent meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed made it clear to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the UAE strongly opposes any attempt to force Palestinians to leave Gaza. He emphasized that rebuilding efforts should focus on achieving a lasting and fair peace through a two-state solution. Dr. Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser to the President, echoed this message, stating that the UAE stands for human rights, reducing suffering, and promoting stability.

The UAE's latest aid effort is part of its broader campaign known as Operation Gallant Knight 3, launched in 2023. This mission, led by President Sheikh Mohamed, has been carried out in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent and various humanitarian organizations. So far, more than 55,000 tonnes of aid have been sent to Gaza via air, sea, and land. This includes over 500 air shipments, six transport ships, and 2,500 trucks delivering goods from Egypt into Gaza. Additionally, over 3,700 tonnes of aid have been air-dropped into areas that are difficult to reach.

Yousef Al Marshoodi, the general manager of the Al Fujairah Charity Association, which is playing a key role in this initiative, explained the importance of this aid. "As part of our ongoing mission, we are sending a new batch of food supplies during Ramadan to support our brothers and sisters in Gaza," he said. The aid packages will include packaged foods, sweets, flour, and rice, which will be delivered about a week before Ramadan begins.

Chronic food shortages in Gaza have made daily life extremely difficult, especially during Ramadan when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. The war has left many families struggling to find food, making this aid even more critical.

The Fujairah Charity Association and the Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi Humanitarian Foundation have worked closely with the UAE government to organize this relief effort. The goal is to provide much-needed food assistance to Palestinian families and help ease their suffering during this challenging time.

Since the war began in October 2023, Gaza's Health Ministry reports that at least 48,319 Palestinians have lost their lives, and 111,749 have been injured. Most residents have been displaced, and large parts of Gaza have been reduced to rubble. In response, the UAE has stepped up its efforts to support the people of Gaza by providing essential aid and advocating for peace in the region.
