The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and New Zealand have entered into a significant agreement to collaborate on Antarctic scientific research. This collaboration, referred to as a Memorandum of Arrangement (MoA), indicates the strong interest of both countries in safeguarding the environment in Antarctica.

The agreement was signed between the Emirates Polar Programme and Antarctica New Zealand in a formal ceremony. On behalf of the UAE, Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs and Vice-Chair of the Emirates Polar Programme Steering Committee, signed on behalf of the UAE. In the interest of New Zealand, Paula Wilson, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, signed on her government's behalf.

Aims of the Partnership
This collaboration is aimed at facilitating collaborative scientific research in Antarctica, promoting academic exchange, and developing polar study expertise. Scientists from the two nations will collaborate on projects that research the Antarctic ecosystem, comprehend climate change, and identify means of preserving this delicate environment through this cooperation.

Talking about the significance of this agreement, Abdulla Balalaa stated, "This collaboration with Antarctica New Zealand is a big leap for the Emirates Polar Programme. It shows the UAE's dedication to collaboration with international specialists in scientific research. New Zealand has superior experience in this area, and this cooperation will enable us to contribute to significant research in Antarctica.". Together, we can enhance our knowledge of the continent and solve the biggest environmental problems.

Leon Grice, Chairman of Antarctica New Zealand, also added his views, saying, "We are thrilled to collaborate with the Emirates Polar Programme. Through this collaboration, the two nations will pool their strengths and lead to new discoveries in one of the world's most unspoiled and sensitive areas. We look forward to collaborating and gaining valuable insights through this partnership."

Strengthening the UAE's Role in Polar Science
The Emirates Polar Programme was established to increase the UAE's contribution to polar research. Under this collaboration, UAE researchers will have greater access to participate in research expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic, enabling the world to learn more about climate change. The programme also seeks to assist global climate action and help protect the environment in these harsh regions.

This partnership is reflective of the increased necessity for nations to collaborate on scientific research and environmental protection. Through cooperation, the UAE and New Zealand are demonstrating leadership in confronting climate change and securing a more sustainable world for our earth.
