Nvidia marked a major milestone in America’s semiconductor landscape on Friday by unveiling the first U.S.-made Blackwell wafer. The advanced chip was produced at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) state-of-the-art facility in Phoenix, Arizona — a move that strengthens domestic AI production as global demand for computing power continues to surge.
The announcement comes amid a worldwide race to develop next-generation AI technology capable of performing tasks once thought to be uniquely human. Nvidia said the new U.S.-made wafer “bolsters the country’s supply chain and onshores the AI technology stack that will turn data into intelligence and secure America’s leadership for the AI era.”

The production of these chips in the U.S. also aligns with President Donald Trump’s ongoing push to restore American dominance in advanced technology and manufacturing. TSMC’s Arizona facility, one of the most advanced in the world, is set to produce cutting-edge two-, three-, and four-nanometer chips, as well as the upcoming A16 generation. These chips are crucial for powering AI systems, high-performance computing, and next-gen telecommunications infrastructure.
The unveiling follows a wave of billion-dollar deals between AI firms and chipmakers — including Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom — aimed at building large-scale data centers to meet soaring AI demand. On Thursday, TSMC raised its full-year revenue forecast after reporting record profits, driven largely by booming AI chip orders.
With the Blackwell wafer now rolling off U.S. production lines, Nvidia’s latest move signals a strategic step toward reshaping the global semiconductor map — one that places the U.S. back at the center of innovation in the AI age.
