The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is set to be awarded on Wednesday, following the recent recognition of two pioneers in artificial intelligence who received the Nobel Prize in Physics just a day earlier. The announcement will be made by the Nobel committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the late morning.

Last year's chemistry award was presented to three scientists who made significant contributions to the development of quantum dots—minuscule particles just a few nanometers in diameter known for their ability to emit intensely bright colored light. These particles have found applications in various fields, including electronics and medical imaging, highlighting the intersection of science and technology.

The week-long Nobel announcements commenced on Monday with the Medicine prize awarded to Americans Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their groundbreaking work. This year, the Physics prize celebrated the contributions of two foundational figures in machine learning, John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton, acknowledging their impact on the field.

The Nobel festivities will continue with the Literature prize being announced on Thursday, followed by the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday and the Economics award on October 14.

Each Nobel Prize carries a substantial cash award of 11 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately $1 million, funded by a bequest from Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite and the founder of the Nobel Prizes. The laureates will be honored at formal ceremonies scheduled for December 10, the anniversary of Nobel's death, where they will receive their awards and celebrate their remarkable achievements in various fields of study.
