The Department of Municipalities and Transport - Abu Dhabi has introduced a comprehensive Performance Evaluation and Engineering Excellence System for engineering firms operating across the emirate. This initiative aims to enhance the quality and sustainability of engineering projects while implementing improved industry standards of performance.
Under this system, engineering firms, including consulting offices and contracting companies, will undergo detailed quarterly assessments. Criteria for evaluation include efficiency, resource optimization, technical expertise, quality of work, and project management competence. Corporate performance will also be assessed based on financial metrics, liquidity, innovation, compliance with regulations, and administrative efficiency.

To ensure transparency and accuracy, the Department of Municipalities and Transport has implemented a fully automated assessment system. This system conducts evaluations on a quarterly and yearly basis, categorizing results and assigning rankings ranging from one to five stars. These rankings will be publicly available on the department's website, allowing stakeholders to make informed decisions based on the demonstrated quality and performance of engineering firms.
Eng. Yousif Al Fahim, Director of the Classification and Occupation Division at DMT, emphasized the system's role in advancing the emirate's engineering sector and fostering innovation in construction. By elevating evaluation standards and promoting competitiveness, the initiative aims to empower stakeholders to select engineering services that best meet their requirements.
The evaluation system reflects DMT's commitment to excellence and aims to strengthen compliance, enhance technical efficiencies, promote transparency, and establish industry-wide quality standards. Ultimately, the goal is to improve productivity and operational effectiveness across the engineering sector in Abu Dhabi.
