A Mumbai content creator has shared her experience from a nine-day trip to Japan, saying she had no difficulty finding vegetarian food, even though many people warned her she would struggle. Her story challenges a common belief that Japan is a difficult place for vegetarian travellers.

Charmy, who travelled on a budget of under ₹1.3 lakh, posted her experience online to help other Indians who worry about food options in Japan. She said that before leaving, friends and family told her she would have a hard time finding meals without meat or fish. But once she reached Japan, she discovered that this fear was unnecessary.

According to her, she enjoyed some of the best meals of her life during the trip. She said that being a vegetarian in Japan is completely possible if travellers are patient and use the right tools. One tool she strongly recommended was a translation app. She explained that many restaurants have ingredients written only in Japanese, so using an app like Google Translate helps avoid confusion.

Charmy did admit to one mistake. She accidentally ate meat when she ordered a pizza that she thought was vegetarian. She said she realised it only after finding pieces of chicken halfway through her meal. This taught her to be more careful and double-check everything before eating.

To help other travellers avoid such moments, she shared simple advice. She told them to always translate the ingredient list and speak clearly to restaurant staff. She also suggested searching for restaurants online using words like “vegetarian” or “vegan,” because many places include these keywords in their descriptions.

She listed a few restaurants where she found good vegetarian meals. These included Sushi Oedo in Shinjuku, Vegan and Gluten Free Osaka in Osaka, and Kyoto Tower Sando Bar in Kyoto. She said all of them served good food and made her trip easier.

Charmy ended her message by encouraging people not to let fear stop them from enjoying Japanese culture and food. She said that vegetarian options are available and that travellers simply need to prepare well and communicate clearly.

Her experience shows that while Japan may not be known as a vegetarian-friendly country, it still offers many choices for those who know where to look. This story may help more Indian travellers feel confident about exploring Japan without worrying about food.
