A new controversy has shocked many families across India after a viral video claimed that eggs from the brand Eggoz Nutrition contained banned chemicals that may cause cancer. The claim, made by a YouTube channel called Trustified, led to confusion and fear among consumers. To clear the air, Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine expert Dr Manan Vora posted a detailed explanation on Instagram, breaking down what is known so far and what still needs answers.
The Viral Claim That Started the Panic
On December 7, Trustified released a video saying their test found two banned substances — nitrofuran and nitroimidazole — in a batch of Eggoz eggs. These chemicals are sometimes used illegally in poultry farms to stop infections and keep hens producing more eggs.
Both chemicals are known as genotoxic, which means they can damage DNA and may increase the risk of cancer. Once this video spread online, people began worrying whether eating eggs could put their health in danger.
What Dr Manan Vora Explained
Dr Vora, who also consumed Eggoz eggs himself, said he was surprised and concerned by the test findings. But he also reminded people not to panic or jump to conclusions.
1. This is one test of one batch
Dr Vora stressed that the Trustified report came from a single sample. It does not prove that all eggs in India contain harmful chemicals or that eggs cause cancer.
2. The chemicals found are illegal in poultry farming
He explained that nitrofuran and nitroimidazole are banned because they can alter DNA. However, some farms may still misuse them to keep hens infection-free.
3. FSSAI’s tolerance levels raise questions
Here, Dr Vora raised strong concerns. He pointed out that many countries follow a zero-tolerance rule for these chemicals.
But in India, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) allows a small tolerance limit.
The Trustified test claimed that the chemical level was 0.7, while it should ideally be below 0.4, and in many countries, the acceptable level is zero.
Dr Vora questioned:
Why does India allow tolerance when other countries don’t?
Is FSSAI regularly testing food products?
How is a brand making crores allowed to operate if banned chemicals are detected?
He said people deserve answers.
“Eggs Do Not Cause Cancer” — Dr Vora’s Clarification
The doctor clearly stated that this controversy does not mean eggs in general are unsafe.
He said:
The concern is about one brand
Based on one test
From one batch
He urged people not to stop eating eggs because they remain one of the healthiest protein sources.
Eggoz Nutrition Issues a Public Statement
On December 9, Eggoz Nutrition posted on Instagram saying their eggs are safe and follow FSSAI standards.
The brand said:
They use zero antibiotics
They follow strict safety rules
They are now doing additional testing through an independent NABL-accredited lab
They want to be fully transparent with customers
They assured people that they take the issue seriously and aim to maintain trust.
Why This Controversy Matters
This incident has raised bigger questions about food safety in India:
1. Are regular food checks happening?
If independent YouTube channels are exposing problems, people wonder what official agencies are doing.
2. Should India move to zero-tolerance like other countries?
For public health, many experts believe chemicals that affect DNA should have no place in food products.
3. How do consumers know what is truly safe?
This case shows the need for clear communication between brands, regulators, and the public.
The egg controversy has created fear, but it has also opened an important conversation about food quality and safety standards in India. While Dr Vora is disappointed with the findings, he has reminded people not to assume that all eggs are unsafe. He called for a proper explanation from both Eggoz and the FSSAI.
For now, the situation highlights the need for stronger checks, more transparency from food brands, and strict action when banned substances are found.
