Matthew Hayden Criticizes Lucknow Super Giants' Poor Performance

Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden expressed strong disappointment over Lucknow Super Giants' lackluster batting performance in their IPL 2024 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite losing just four wickets during their innings, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to accelerate, ultimately posting a modest total of 165 runs in 20 overs.

Hayden, while commentating on the match, criticized LSG's slow start, emphasizing the necessity for someone in the team to demonstrate intent. He lamented their sluggish progress during the powerplay overs, remarking that it set the tone for an inadequate total on a surface that demanded more aggressive batting.

"This is not a 5 runs per over wicket. Somebody needed to show intent. They had one of the slowest powerplays. That took the innings nowhere. When the opposition team has Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, your intention should be to go at 10s and over. 160-170 will never be enough," Hayden remarked.

In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma dominated the LSG bowlers, leading their team to a swift victory in just 9.4 overs. LSG captain KL Rahul expressed disbelief at the onslaught from the SRH batters, acknowledging their exceptional hitting prowess.

"Am lost for words. We have watched that kind of batting on tv. But this is unreal batting. Everything seemed to find the middle of the bat. Kudos to their skills," Rahul commented on SRH's batting performance.

Reflecting on his team's performance, Rahul admitted to being short of words in the face of SRH's aggressive batting display. He conceded that LSG fell short by 40-50 runs, attributing their struggles to a lack of momentum after losing wickets early in the powerplay. Despite Ayush and Nicky's valiant efforts to bolster the total, Rahul acknowledged that even a higher score would have been insufficient against SRH's formidable batting lineup.

"Was hard to stop them as they teed off from ball one. Once you are on the losing side, there are questions marks on the decisions taken. We were 40-50 runs short. When we lost wickets in the powerplay, we couldn't get any momentum. Ayush and Nicky batted well to get us to 166. But even if we would have got 240, they could have chased it as well," Rahul reflected after the match.
