A Bombardier Challenger 600 private jet, with eight individuals onboard, crashed during takeoff at Bangor International Airport on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time. Currently, there are no updates available on the passengers' conditions. Authorities such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The accident took place during a severe winter storm affecting New England and much of the eastern United States. Bangor and neighboring areas experienced heavy snowfall throughout Sunday, complicating travel conditions for both air and ground transportation. Emergency response teams promptly arrived at the scene, and the airport was temporarily closed following the crash of the single aircraft.

Bangor International Airport acts as a key regional hub, featuring direct flights to cities like Orlando, Florida; Washington, D.C.; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Located about 200 miles north of Boston, it is vital for transportation in Maine and nearby regions.

The ongoing winter storm has resulted in significant interruptions nationwide, leading to thousands of flight cancellations. On Sunday, almost 12,000 flights were canceled and close to 20,000 faced delays across the U.S., according to flight tracking data. Major airports in cities such as Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, New York, plus areas in North Carolina and New Jersey, were highly impacted by this severe weather.

Introduced in 1980, the Bombardier Challenger 600 is known for its spacious "walk-about cabin" and accommodates between nine to eleven passengers. It continues to be a popular choice for private flights and corporate travel, appreciated for its comfort and range.

As investigations proceed, authorities remain on-site to provide assistance and evaluate the situation. Officials are advising the public to steer clear of the area to support ongoing rescue and investigation efforts.

This incident showcases the perils associated with air travel during harsh weather conditions, with further information expected as investigators make progress.
