Beginning this Friday, the 2025 ISSF World Cup Finals for rifle, pistol, and shotgun events will take place at the Lusail Shooting Complex, gathering elite shooters and reigning champions from around the globe. The competition runs through Monday, showcasing the top 12 men and women in each discipline. Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, the tournament director, highlighted that this marks the second occasion Qatar has held these finals, which serve as a critical preparatory step for the forthcoming World Championship scheduled for November. Athletes will compete for the initial 36 qualification slots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, with 144 competitors from 133 countries participating, including 16 local shooters.
In a historic move, the finals will deploy the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system to enhance decision-making accuracy and fairness throughout the event. Over 60 premier international referees, along with a proficient team from Qatar, will oversee the matches. ISSF President Luciano Rossi commended Qatar for its robust infrastructure, modern facilities, and logistical capabilities, asserting that Doha continues to affirm its status as a prime destination for hosting high-caliber international sports.
The finals present a significant opportunity for Qatari shooters to sharpen their skills ahead of the 2025 World Championship. Backed by new coaching staff, the athletes aspire to elevate their performance levels and optimize their chances for Olympic qualification. This key event reinforces Qatar's reputation as a top-tier host of international shooting competitions and supports local athletes in achieving greater heights.
