In a dominant display at Anfield, Liverpool secured a commanding 5-1 victory over West Ham United in the League Cup, with Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo each netting two goals. Mohamed Salah also contributed to the scoreline as the reigning champions demonstrated their attacking prowess.
The match took an unexpected turn early on when West Ham took the lead. The Hammers opened the scoring in the 10th minute when a corner kick led to an unfortunate own goal. Wataru Endo’s attempt to clear the danger resulted in the ball ricocheting off Jarell Quansah and past Liverpool's goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, putting the visitors ahead.
Liverpool, however, responded quickly. Just four minutes later, Jota equalized with a powerful header, connecting with Federico Chiesa’s acrobatic volley. The Portuguese forward then showcased his striking ability again shortly after halftime, scoring in the 49th minute. Curtis Jones delivered a perfectly timed reverse pass to Jota, who finished coolly into the bottom corner, giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

As the match progressed, Liverpool continued to assert their dominance. Mohamed Salah extended the lead to 3-1 in the 74th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Alexis Mac Allister’s shot. Just two minutes later, West Ham was dealt a significant blow when Edson Alvarez received a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
Cody Gakpo, who had been a constant threat, sealed the game for Liverpool with two late goals. His first came in the 90th minute with a stunning strike from 17 yards after a quick one-two with Darwin Núñez. Gakpo completed the rout in stoppage time, netting his second goal in the 93rd minute to cap off an impressive team performance.
In another League Cup match, Arsenal cruised past third-tier Bolton Wanderers with a similar 5-1 scoreline at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri shone brightly, scoring twice, marking the 17-year-old's first goals for the club. Raheem Sterling also made headlines by netting his debut goal for Arsenal. Additional contributions came from Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, while Aaron Collins managed to score a consolation goal for Bolton.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal's performances highlighted their attacking capabilities, setting the stage for an exciting fourth round of the League Cup as they continue their pursuit of silverware this season.
