Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 continues to make waves at the box office, cementing its place as one of the biggest hits of 2025. Released on October 2, the film has captivated audiences with its blend of mythological action, cultural storytelling, and Shetty’s own powerhouse performance as a fearless warrior.
The film saw a remarkable second weekend, collecting ₹39 crore on Saturday and ₹39.75 crore on Sunday, bringing the weekend total to ₹100 crore. However, like many blockbusters, the momentum slowed on Monday, with a collection of ₹13.50 crore. Despite this dip, the domestic total has now reached an impressive ₹451.90 crore.

Kantara Chapter 1 has overtaken several major releases, including Rajinikanth’s Jailer (₹348.55 crore), Baahubali: The Beginning (₹420 crore), Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (₹406 crore), and Saiyaara (₹329 crore). Yet, it still trails Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 so far, with ₹601.54 crore.
Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the movie stars Rishab Shetty alongside Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah. Set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, the story dives into the origins of the Buta Kola ritual, serving as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara.
Critics and audiences alike have praised the film for its gripping narrative, stunning visuals, and Shetty’s direction. The film has struck a chord not just regionally but across India, with viewers applauding its authentic cultural portrayal and intense action sequences.
With strong word-of-mouth and a growing fan base, Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate screens, proving that well-crafted regional cinema can compete with pan-India blockbusters.
