Kamala Harris Campaign Raises $81 Million in 24 Hours Following Biden's Endorsement
Washington, D.C. – In a remarkable display of support, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign has raised an astounding $81 million in the first 24 hours since President Joe Biden announced his decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race and endorse Harris as the Democratic Party's new nominee. This fundraising surge reflects the significant momentum behind Harris' candidacy as she prepares to lead the party in the upcoming election.

Biden’s endorsement comes after mounting pressure from Democrats following a challenging debate performance against his Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump. The decision to nominate Harris, who has served as the U.S.' first female, Black, and South Asian vice president since 2021, signals a major shift in the Democratic primary race.
Kevin Munoz, spokesperson for Harris' campaign, highlighted the widespread enthusiasm, stating, "There is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is terrified because he knows his divisive and unpopular agenda can't stand up to the vice president's record and vision for the American people." Munoz emphasized that the $81 million raised in just 24 hours is a record for any candidate in history, contributing to the nearly $250 million already accumulated this election cycle. This figure includes funds raised across the campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.
The campaign reported that over 888,000 grassroots donors contributed, with 60% making their first donation of the 2024 cycle. The 24-hour fundraising total surpasses all previous records. Additionally, Harris’ campaign added 43,000 new recurring donors, with more than half opting for weekly contributions. A Sunday evening call hosted by Win with Black Women alone raised approximately $1.6 million in grassroots contributions. The campaign's official social media account, @KamalaHQ, saw its following double overnight, reflecting the surge in grassroots support.
Munoz noted, "The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections." He added that the broad and diverse coalition forming around Harris will be crucial in connecting with voters and ensuring a strong showing in the general election.
Although Biden's endorsement solidifies Harris' position as the likely Democratic nominee, she still needs formal approval from the party's delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22. Biden has already secured 3,896 delegates, surpassing the 1,976 required to win the nomination.
In preparation for this transition, the Biden-Harris campaign has amended its filings with the Federal Election Commission to rename its principal committee and officially declare Harris as a presidential candidate. Harris has also received an endorsement from former President Bill Clinton, which could further boost her candidacy.
The Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) reported that an overwhelming majority of state Democratic Party chairs have voiced their support for Harris, signaling strong party unity behind her candidacy.
