During their recent summit, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung brought an unexpected twist to diplomacy with a fun drum session, jamming to popular K-pop hits. This lively interaction, shared by Takaichi's office, featured tracks from renowned groups like BTS and K-pop Demon Hunters, highlighting a shared enjoyment of music.
Takaichi, an avid drummer with a fondness for heavy metal, praised Lee for his quick learning abilities, noting that he caught on to the rhythm in mere minutes. Their enthusiastic attempts at synchronizing their beats accompanied smiles, representing their shared commitment to fostering a robust alliance between Japan and South Korea.
The South Korean leader shared his enthusiasm via social media, emphasizing a hopeful future for their friendship. He remarked on their varied tempos but expressed eagerness to sync up and work together with “one heart” for a stronger connection between their nations.
This joyful encounter arrives amid renewed efforts to bridge gaps between the two nations, which have experienced past tensions. Their discussions also covered strategies for bolstering security and economic collaboration in light of increasing regional challenges. Plans for continued dialogue included an upcoming visit by Takaichi to South Korea as part of their “shuttle diplomacy.”
Additionally, the summit featured a cultural visit to the historic Horyuji Temple in Nara, Takaichi's hometown, reinforcing the growing camaraderie between the two leaders.
In essence, this drum session transcended mere amusement; it emerged as a potent symbol of unity and proactive cooperation as Japan and South Korea aim to enhance their relations and tackle regional issues hand in hand.
