The UAE Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is visiting India for three days to further strengthen the ties between the UAE and India. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss ways to expand their partnership in important areas like trade, investment, and regional issues.
Al Nahyan, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, will hold talks with Minister Jaishankar in Delhi on Thursday. These talks will focus on reviewing the entire relationship between the two countries, especially their strategic partnership. Officials have confirmed that the discussions will cover a wide range of topics, and the situation in Syria will likely be one of the key issues. This comes at a time when Syria is going through a political crisis after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which has created challenges in the region.
Bashar-al-Assad, the leader of Syria, was removed from power by rebel groups, and the Assad family has sought asylum in Moscow, according to Russian officials. With the Middle East facing such changes, both leaders are expected to discuss the situation in Syria and other challenges in the region.
Al Nahyan’s visit to India is an important step in building even stronger ties between the two nations. After Prime Minister Modi's historic visit to the UAE in 2015, the relationship between the two countries was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This partnership aims to deepen cooperation in multiple areas, including trade, defence, and cultural exchanges.
One of the major achievements of this partnership has been the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022. This agreement has helped increase trade between the two countries and improve investment opportunities. Under the agreement, tariffs are reduced, and there are more opportunities for businesses from both nations to access each other's markets. The CEPA has also helped address technical trade barriers and opened up government procurement opportunities.

The trade relationship between India and the UAE has grown significantly. In 2022-23, bilateral trade reached around USD 85 billion, making the UAE one of India’s top trading partners. Additionally, the UAE is one of the top investors in India. The country was one of the top four sources of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into India during the same period, further boosting economic ties between the two nations.
During his visit, Al Nahyan is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi. This visit is an opportunity to discuss how to continue to improve the relationship between the two countries. The UAE-India partnership is not only important for economic reasons but also for addressing key global and regional challenges. As the two countries continue to build their relationship, they aim to work together to bring stability and growth to the region and the world.
