In a significant achievement for India’s space ambitions, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its 64th Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C62) on Monday. Liftoff occurred at 10:18 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, marking a crucial comeback following last year’s launch challenges.
The centerpiece of this mission is Anvesha, a classified surveillance satellite crafted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Equipped with cutting-edge imaging capabilities, Anvesha aims to improve India’s surveillance, reconnaissance, and intelligence operations through high-resolution mapping of key strategic sites.
Alongside Anvesha, the mission saw the deployment of EOS-N1 and 15 other satellites into orbit. ISRO confirmed the satellites will be placed into a Sun-Synchronous Orbit, while the Kestrel Initial Demonstrator (KID) was put on a controlled descent trajectory for technology validation.
ISRO Chairman Dr. V Narayanan noted a deviation was identified during the third stage, and data analysis is underway. Although he refrained from declaring the mission a total victory, he reassured that all systems are under close scrutiny.
This launch also heralds a new era for India’s private space sector, as Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space contributed seven satellites to this PSLV mission, underscoring the growing influence of private players in satellite design and launch.
The mission is particularly significant following the PSLV failure in May 2025, which was caused by a third-stage anomaly. Consequently, this launch was highly anticipated within the global space community as a demonstration of reliability for ISRO’s flagship launch vehicle.
Experts view this successful flight as a morale booster for both ISRO and its international clients, as well as domestic startups seeking to benefit from India’s economical launch services. The cooperative efforts between ISRO, DRDO, and private firms signify a transformative approach toward shared innovation.
As India advances its involvement in diverse aspects of space exploration—defence, commercial endeavours, and beyond—PSLV-C62 stands as a beacon of resilience and growth in the nation’s space journey.
