Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on Yemen on Wednesday, striking several locations in the capital Sanaa and the northern Al Jawf region.
Initial reports from local authorities state that at least 35 people have been killed and more than 130 injured in the attacks.
The strikes targeted military command sites, fuel depots, and logistical centers used by the Houthi group. Some residential and civilian areas were also hit, raising concerns about the safety of the civilian population.
Tensions between Israel and the Houthi group in Yemen have been increasing in recent months.
The escalation follows multiple drone and missile attacks launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory.
The Houthis, an armed group aligned with Iran, have declared their support for Palestinian groups and have been conducting attacks as part of that stance.
Israel has warned in previous statements that it would respond to any attacks on its territory, and this latest operation marks the largest known Israeli strike inside Yemen to date.
According to official briefings, the airstrikes were concentrated on the following targets:
Military headquarters in central Sanaa
Fuel storage sites believed to be used for military supply
Command and communication centers operated by the Houthis
A government complex in the city of Al Hazm, Al Jawf region
Local emergency services reported that several residential buildings and a medical facility were also damaged during the strikes.
The strikes caused widespread destruction in parts of Sanaa, damaging homes, vehicles, and essential infrastructure.
Medical teams have been deployed to affected districts to treat the injured. Hospitals in Sanaa have appealed for urgent medical supplies and blood donations.
Rescue operations continued late into the night as authorities searched for survivors trapped under rubble. Displaced families are being moved to temporary shelters.
Houthi officials have condemned the strikes and announced a state of emergency in affected areas. They claimed their air defense units fired several missiles at the Israeli aircraft, forcing some to retreat before completing their missions.
They also stated that the strikes will not deter them from what they describe as “support operations” for Palestinians.
The Israeli military said the strikes were “defensive and targeted” operations in direct response to drone and missile attacks launched from Yemen in recent weeks.
Israeli authorities said they took steps to minimize civilian casualties and only struck “legitimate military infrastructure” used to launch attacks on Israeli territory.
Regional observers are closely monitoring the escalation, warning that continued exchanges could destabilize maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the impact on civilians, particularly as Yemen is already facing severe shortages of food, fuel, and medicine.
Diplomatic sources in the region have called for de-escalation and dialogue to prevent further loss of life and regional instability.
This airstrike marks a major turning point in the ongoing tensions between Israel and the Houthis.
It has highlighted the risk of the Yemen conflict expanding beyond its borders, pulling more countries into regional instability.
For the UAE and wider Middle East region, this development will be watched closely due to its implications on trade routes, energy security, and humanitarian operations.
