Mexican cyclist Isaac Del Toro of UAE Team Emirates-XRG claimed victory in the opening stage of the UAE Tour in Al Dhafra, taking the lead in the general classification.
On the steep finish ramp of Liwa Palace, Del Toro edged out Dutch rider Cees Bol of Decathlon CMA CGM Team in a thrilling sprint to the last metre. Italian cyclist Antonio Tiberi of Bahrain Victorious, another general classification contender, completed the podium.
Previous winner Jonathan Milan, who had won on this same finish in 2025, was unable to compete for the stage win after a crash a few kilometres from the finish.
Strong winds forced organizers to shorten the stage from 144 km to 118 km, making the race even more challenging.
The next key test for general classification riders will be the 12.2 km individual time trial on Al Hudayriyat Island in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
