India has raised pressing concerns with Poland regarding what it refers to as the "biased and unjust targeting" of New Delhi concerning its trade ties with Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar cautioned Warsaw against any direct or indirect support to Pakistan related to cross-border terrorism.
In a pivotal meeting in New Delhi with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, both leaders assessed the rapidly evolving India-Poland Strategic Partnership. They deliberated on essential regional and global matters, emphasizing improved collaboration in trade, investment, defense, security, clean technologies, and digital innovation.
Jaishankar highlighted that the discussion took place amidst significant global uncertainty, underlining the necessity for dialogue among nations across diverse regions. He reminded that India and Poland elevated their relations to a strategic partnership in August 2024 and noted the initiative to revisit the Action Plan for 2024-28 to enhance cooperation.
The conversation further turned towards geopolitical concerns, especially regarding the Ukraine situation. Jaishankar reiterated India’s consistent viewpoint shared at various international forums, including New York and Paris, and reaffirmed it in New Delhi. He stated that the selective targeting of India’s autonomous foreign policy in relation to the Ukraine crisis is unjust and unwarranted. India maintains its call for dialogue and diplomacy, steering clear of bloc-based alignments.
Additionally, cross-border terrorism emerged as a critical issue. Jaishankar reminded Minister Sikorski about the security challenges India faces from its borders and expressed hope that Poland would uphold a stringent zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He indicated that Poland should not support or harbor terrorist entities in India’s neighborhood, indirectly referencing Pakistan.
India has recently intensified diplomatic endeavors to make European nations and bodies aware of Pakistan's role in financing terrorism and providing safe havens to extremist groups. The communicated stance was clear: while India values its expanding relationship with Poland and the EU, it anticipates principled and steadfast opposition to terrorism.
Jaishankar’s appeal for Poland’s zero tolerance towards terrorism can also be viewed as a reaction to Poland’s earlier views on Kashmir during its visit to Islamabad in October 2025.
Minister Sikorski recognized India's concerns, agreeing that the biased application of tariffs is unjust and may precipitate broader disruptions in global trade. He also shared Poland's experiences with terrorism, mentioning recent occurrences like arson attacks and sabotage on railways, reiterating the need for international collaboration to combat cross-border terrorism.
This meeting signifies the strengthening of the economic and strategic bond between India and Poland. Poland is among India’s top trading partners in Central Europe, with bilateral trade nearing USD 7 billion and Indian investments surpassing USD 3 billion. Both nations expressed optimism regarding the continued growth of their strategic partnership, even as India distinctly laid out its stances on geopolitical pressures and terrorism.
