Indian Schools in UAE Announce Four-Day Diwali Holiday for Students

Indian schools across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have announced a four-day break to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, allowing students and families to enjoy the festivities and spend quality time together.

The decision has been warmly welcomed by the Indian community, which forms one of the largest expatriate groups in the UAE. The extended holiday aims to give students and parents a well-deserved break to participate in cultural events, family gatherings, and religious ceremonies marking the occasion.

Diwali Break Details

According to school circulars and management announcements, the Diwali holidays will run from Friday, October 17 to Monday, October 20, with classes resuming on Tuesday, October 21. The break includes the weekend, effectively giving students four continuous days off.

This schedule applies to several major Indian-curriculum schools in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, including those affiliated with the CBSE and ICSE boards.

Schools Celebrate with Festive Spirit

Ahead of the break, schools have organized a range of Diwali-themed activities, such as art competitions, diya decoration, cultural performances, and charity drives. These initiatives aim to teach students the values of light over darkness, goodness over evil, and unity across cultures.

Teachers have also emphasized the importance of responsible celebrations, encouraging students to use eco-friendly diyas and decorations while maintaining safety during fireworks and festivities.

Community Joy and Cultural Significance

The announcement has brought excitement among families, many of whom plan to attend community Diwali events held at cultural centers, temples, and local Indian associations throughout the UAE.

In cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Diwali celebrations are expected to include fireworks displays, shopping festivals, and special dining offers, making the festival one of the most anticipated times of the year.

Parents have expressed appreciation for the extended break, saying it allows children to connect with their roots and traditions despite living abroad.

A Reflection of UAE’s Cultural Harmony

The recognition of Diwali holidays by Indian schools reflects the UAE’s commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity. With residents from over 200 nationalities, the country continues to be a shining example of peaceful coexistence and respect for all faiths.

Authorities and educators alike have praised how such initiatives strengthen community ties and encourage cross-cultural understanding among young learners.

As Indian schools across the UAE close their doors for the four-day Diwali holiday, the spirit of celebration, togetherness, and gratitude fills the air. The festive season not only brings joy to families but also reinforces the UAE’s image as a global home for multicultural harmony.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe Diwali!
