India has reacted with urgency to the alarming killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, expressing deep concern over repeated attacks targeting minority communities. The government of New Delhi reported that this escalating violence raises significant worries about the existing law and order situation.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized its vigilant monitoring of events in Bangladesh, noting recent assaults on Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists. India condemned these brutal acts and insisted that those accountable must be held legally responsible.
Officials highlighted that there have been numerous violent encounters affecting minorities in recent months, featuring homicides, arson, and violence related to land disputes. India cautioned that these occurrences should not be overlooked as mere political turmoil or isolated incidents.
The most recent incident occurred in Rajbari district, approximately 145 kilometers from Dhaka, where victim Amrit Mondal was reportedly beaten to death after accusations of extortion surfaced. Authorities noted that Mondal and his associates were confronted following allegations of soliciting money from local residents. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital after the assault.
Law enforcement confirmed one arrest in relation to this incident, while others fled the scene. Weapons were seized, and it was revealed that Mondal had several criminal charges against him. His remains are undergoing a post-mortem as inquiries continue.
This attack followed another disturbing lynching incident in Mymensingh, where a young Hindu factory worker named Dipu Das was murdered over accusations of blasphemy. Witnesses reported he was assaulted by a mob, hanged from a tree, and subsequently set ablaze near a busy roadway, causing significant traffic disruption.
The incident ignited widespread anger as videos of the violent act circulated on social media. The interim Bangladeshi government condemned the mob violence, asserting its disapproval of such illegal actions. It has pledged to enforce stringent legal measures against all involved in both occurrences.
India has reiterated its expectation that Bangladesh will act to protect its minority populations and ensure justice is served through lawful methods.
