Beirut – In light of escalating regional tensions, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon has advised Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Lebanon. The advisory comes after recent developments in the region, including a rocket attack at Golan Heights allegedly fired by Hezbollah, which resulted in the death of 12 children. The Indian Embassy has urged its nationals in Lebanon to exercise caution, restrict their movements, and stay in contact with the embassy.
In a statement on X, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon said, "In view of the recent escalations in the region, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Lebanon. All Indian nationals in Lebanon are advised to exercise caution, restrict their movements and remain in contact with Embassy of India in Beirut through their email id: cons.beirut@mea.gov.in or the emergency phone number 96176860128."
Tensions have heightened significantly after the Golan Heights attack. In retaliation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a strike in southern Lebanon, killing top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. The IDF described Shukr as the "most senior Hezbollah military commander" and the right-hand man of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Shukr, who sat on Hezbollah's Jihad Council, was considered the head of its strategic division and was responsible for the group’s most advanced weaponry and strategic planning of attacks against Israel.

The IDF stated that Shukr had been directing Hezbollah's attacks on Israel since the October 7 Hamas assault and was responsible for the deadly strike in Majdal Shams, which killed 12 children. Shukr's role encompassed the management of advanced weaponry, including precise-guided missiles, cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, long-range rockets, and UAVs.
The killing of Shukr has drawn strong reactions from various groups. Both the Houthis and Hamas have condemned the Israeli strike. The Houthi political wing, known as Ansar Allah, issued a statement affirming solidarity with Lebanon and Hezbollah, praising their role in supporting the Palestinian people. Similarly, Hamas declared full solidarity with Lebanon and Hezbollah, describing the Israeli strike as a "dangerous escalation."
The situation remains tense, with the possibility of further escalations. The Indian Embassy's advisory underscores the need for caution and vigilance among Indian nationals in Lebanon. The embassy has provided contact details for those in need of assistance and continues to monitor the situation closely.
As tensions persist, India joins the international community in watching the developments in Lebanon and the broader region. The safety of its citizens remains a top priority, and the Indian government is taking necessary steps to ensure their protection amidst the ongoing conflict.
