Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Supreme Committee for the Development of Hatta has introduced 14 brand-new investment and commercial opportunities at the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project.
This initiative, carried out by Dubai Municipality, is not just about new shops and restaurants. It is about giving Emirati citizens, especially those living in Hatta, the chance to grow, create jobs, and support the local economy while preserving the region’s natural beauty and culture.

A Gift to Hatta Residents
One of the most exciting parts of this project is that all retail spaces at the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls will be given to Emiratis living in Hatta completely free of charge for one year.
This means that families, small businesses, and young entrepreneurs will get the rare chance to start their own ventures without worrying about rent in the first year. It is like giving them a springboard to jump into success, encouraging them to try their ideas, grow, and become more self-reliant.
This move also ensures that the benefits of development in Hatta reach directly to the local community, instead of being limited to big companies.
Supporting National Plans
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project is not a stand-alone idea. It is part of several larger national strategies, including:
Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan – which focuses on making Dubai one of the best cities to live in.
Hatta Development Master Plan – which focuses on Hatta’s growth as a tourist and cultural destination.
Dubai Social Agenda 33 – which aims to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Dubai Economic Agenda D33 – which seeks to position Dubai among the world’s top three global cities for tourism, business, and lifestyle.
By creating new jobs, empowering small businesses, and protecting the environment, the project connects directly with these ambitious goals.
The New Opportunities – What’s Included?
The new investment and commercial spaces cover a total area of 750 square metres. These include:
4 Restaurants – offering Emirati, Arabic, Western, and traditional cuisine.
4 Retail Stores – for souvenirs, gifts, and other local products.
6 Food and Beverage Kiosks – perfect for quick bites, coffee, or snacks.
The goal is to provide visitors with a variety of choices, while also highlighting Emirati culture and heritage. For example, tourists may enjoy traditional Emirati dishes, buy handcrafted souvenirs, or even rent equipment for outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking in the scenic Hatta mountains.
Boosting Tourism and Culture
The UAE is already a global tourism hub, but Hatta has always been seen as a hidden gem with its beautiful mountains, freshwater lakes, and outdoor adventures. The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project adds another layer of attraction.
By bringing in cafes, shops, and restaurants run by local Emiratis, the project creates a more authentic experience for visitors. Tourists will not just see Hatta’s natural beauty but will also get to interact with local families, taste traditional foods, and purchase unique handmade products.
This way, tourism does not only benefit the city’s economy but also protects and promotes local culture.
Words from Dubai Municipality
Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, explained the importance of this step. He said: “For the first time, investment and commercial opportunities are being introduced in the Hatta Dam area, specifically at the Sustainable Waterfalls. This marks a significant step in strengthening the local economy and empowering Emirati entrepreneurs. The initiative creates a supportive business environment that generates unique job opportunities for citizens, fosters new projects, and enables productive families and residents to expand their small businesses.”
His words highlight the bigger picture – this project is not just about business; it is about giving people confidence, opportunities, and the tools to build their own future.
How Citizens Can Apply
Dubai Municipality has opened applications for Emirati citizens living in Hatta to take part in these opportunities. Interested residents can apply online through the official website: www.dm.gov.ae/business.
The selection process will be based on clear eligibility criteria set by a committee, ensuring fairness and transparency. This way, only those who are truly committed and qualified will be chosen to run these businesses.
The Iconic Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls itself is already a major tourist attraction. It is located at the Hatta Dam, a popular spot known for its turquoise waters and mountain views.
The waterfalls flow from the upper dam of the Hatta Hydroelectric Plant and run beautifully over a massive mosaic mural. This mural is special because it is the largest of its kind in the world.
It spans 2,199 square metres and is made up of more than 1.2 million natural marble pieces. What makes it even more meaningful is that the mural honors the UAE’s founding leaders — the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
This combination of natural beauty, engineering, and art makes the waterfalls one of the most memorable attractions in the region.
Why This Matters for the Future
The Hatta development plan is not just about the present but about building a sustainable future. With projects like these:
Young Emiratis will gain the confidence to become entrepreneurs.
Families will be able to increase their income and support their children’s education.
Hatta will attract more tourists, boosting the economy.
The environment will remain protected as development is carried out with sustainability in mind.
The UAE has always placed its people at the heart of development, and this project is another clear example of that commitment.
A Step Towards Self-Sufficiency
By giving free retail spaces for one year, the government is not only supporting small businesses but also encouraging self-sufficiency among Hatta residents. Instead of depending on outside investors, the people of Hatta themselves will own, run, and benefit from these opportunities.
This is expected to create a ripple effect – once the first businesses succeed, they will inspire others to try, leading to a stronger, more independent local economy.
The launch of 14 new investment opportunities at the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls is a landmark step for Dubai and the UAE. It combines economic growth, cultural preservation, and community empowerment into one initiative.
By empowering Emirati citizens with free retail spaces, the government is showing its commitment to creating inclusive development, where progress is not just for big corporations but also for families, small businesses, and the younger generation.
Hatta, already known for its stunning natural beauty, is set to become an even more attractive destination where visitors can enjoy not only the landscapes but also the warmth and creativity of its people.
