Held under the patronage of the UAE’s leadership, the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation has revealed the headline programme for the 23rd Abu Dhabi Festival, opening on 12 April 2026. The upcoming edition brings together more than 1,000 artists from 19 countries, reaffirming Abu Dhabi’s position as a global meeting point for culture, creativity and dialogue.
Returning under the theme The Wisdom of Culture, the festival highlights culture as a unifying force that connects societies, preserves identity and inspires shared human values. The 2026 edition also carries special significance as it marks 30 years since the founding of ADMAF and recognises the United States as the Festival’s Country of Honour, coinciding with 250 years of US independence and over five decades of UAE–US relations.
Music, opera, ballet and orchestral performances will take centre stage across Abu Dhabi’s leading venues, including Emirates Palace Auditorium, Etihad Arena and The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi. The programme features ten world-renowned orchestras alongside internationally celebrated soloists and ensembles, offering audiences a rich and diverse artistic experience.
The festival will open with Grammy Award-winning artist Jon Batiste, whose performance blends jazz, soul and storytelling in an intimate setting. Later highlights include a major concert by cellist HAUSER, appearances by the American Ballet Theatre, and a special Verdi Opera Gala performed by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, marking 125 years since the legendary composer’s passing.
Audiences can also expect unique cross-cultural productions. Algarabía, a multidisciplinary performance combining flamenco with Arab poetry and music, will have its Arab World premiere in Abu Dhabi after debuting in Spain. Renowned classical artists, including violinist Lisa Batiashvili, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and pianist Minsoo Sohn, will further enrich the concert series with performances spanning classical mastery and modern interpretation.
Jazz and regional sounds will also be celebrated, with Tunisian oud virtuoso Dhafer Youssef presenting a special programme in honour of UNESCO’s World Jazz Day, blending North African traditions with jazz and European classical influences.
Emirati talent remains a core focus of the Festival. The closing days will feature a dedicated Emirati Recital Series, showcasing local musicians trained in classical and traditional Arabic music, including vocal, oud and cello performances that reflect the depth of the UAE’s musical heritage.
Beyond the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Festival Abroad programme will continue to showcase Emirati and international creativity on global stages. Highlights include major exhibitions in Seoul, concerts in Washington, D.C., and performances at Carnegie Hall, strengthening cultural exchange through art.
Education and youth engagement remain central to the festival’s mission. Through workshops, masterclasses and the Festival Academy, young artists will gain direct exposure to global professionals. The formation of the Abu Dhabi Festival Youth Orchestra and the launch of the region’s first outdoor Children’s Biennale further underline the festival’s long-term investment in future generations.
With its expansive programme and global outlook, Abu Dhabi Festival 2026 once again positions culture not just as entertainment, but as a living bridge between nations, generations and ideas.
