Ghaziabad Executive's Suicide Sparks Investigation into Alleged Workplace Harassment
Noida/Ghaziabad, Jul 17 (PTI) – A 27-year-old executive working at a private firm ended her life allegedly due to physical and mental harassment by her colleagues, officials said on Wednesday. The woman, who lived in Ghaziabad and worked as a tele-caller for Axis Bank at their Noida office, had been facing harassment for the past five to six months, her family claimed.
Incident Details
The woman reportedly consumed poison on July 12, leading to her death later that evening. Her brother approached the Nandgram police station in Ghaziabad, where an FIR was lodged under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Family's Allegations
The woman's brother claimed she had confided in the family about the harassment three to four days before her death. "My younger sister was working at Axis House, Noida. She had told the family three-four days before committing suicide that the employees working with her were harassing her physically and mentally for the last five-six months," he stated. He mentioned names of three colleagues, including a woman, in the FIR.
"Being troubled by the actions of these people, my sister consumed a poisonous substance on July 12 at around 4:15 pm, after which we went to MMG Hospital, Ghaziabad, where she was treated," he added. Due to her serious condition, she was referred to GTB Hospital in Delhi but succumbed to her condition during treatment.
Police Investigation
The Ghaziabad Police have launched a thorough investigation into the case. "We are examining CCTV footage from the workplace of the deceased. We are also questioning her colleagues to ascertain facts of the matter. A detailed probe is underway," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Ravi Kumar Singh.
Statement from Axis Bank
Axis Bank issued a statement expressing their condolences for the unfortunate incident but clarified that the woman was not their employee. "She was an employee of QUESS Corp Limited. From a preliminary review of the incident, we understand that there was a significant disagreement between the executive and another QUESS Corp employee at our Noida Office," the bank stated.
