Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, the Crown Prince of Fujairah, the emirate proudly opened its doors today to host the 6th Asian Yogasana Championship (UAE 2025) at the Zayed Sports Complex.
This prestigious two-day championship is one of the biggest events for yoga athletes in Asia, bringing together 160 talented participants from 16 countries. Each athlete will showcase their strength, flexibility, and discipline in the ancient art of yogasana — a practice that blends physical postures, breathing techniques, and mental focus.
The event is being organised under the guidance of the Ministry of Sports, in cooperation with the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation, the UAE Sports for All Federation, and the UAE Yoga Committee. It is not just about competition — it is also a celebration of health, culture, and unity between nations.
Honouring Yoga Leaders and Cultural Contributions
One of the special highlights of the championship is the Asian Yoga Excellence Awards ceremony. This awards night will recognise six distinguished personalities from across Asia for their remarkable work in promoting yoga in their home countries and internationally. These individuals have not only helped popularise yoga but have also inspired healthier lifestyles and contributed to building communities focused on peace and wellness.
Along with individual awards, a number of institutions, yoga schools, and cultural organisations will also be honoured for their role in preserving traditional yoga practices, spreading harmony among communities, and safeguarding cultural heritage around the world.
Message from the Organisers
Saeed Al Ajil, Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee, said the event reflects the UAE’s dedication to hosting international sporting events and encouraging active lifestyles. He explained that such championships match the country’s vision to become a global sports hub, while also promoting yoga as a recognised sporting discipline.
“Yogasana is not just a physical exercise — it’s a cultural bridge that connects people. Through events like this, we encourage not only athletic skill but also cultural exchange and mutual respect among Asian countries,” he said.

A Strong International Presence
The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Mohammed Al Dhahouri and Sheikha Al Kaabi, both members of the Federal National Council (FNC), Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, President of the Emirates Sports for All Federation, and Nouf Marwaai, President of the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF). Their presence highlights the importance of this championship not only as a sporting event but also as a platform for diplomatic and cultural engagement.
More Than a Competition
While the athletes will be competing for titles and medals, the championship is also designed to provide opportunities for learning, networking, and cultural sharing. Visitors and participants can attend workshops, interactive sessions, and demonstrations from yoga masters. These activities aim to educate people on the health benefits of yogasana — from improving posture and flexibility to reducing stress and boosting mental clarity.
The event also encourages younger generations to take up yoga, showcasing it not only as a spiritual and fitness practice but also as a competitive sport recognised internationally.
A Boost for Fujairah’s Global Profile
Hosting an event of this scale places Fujairah firmly on the map as a destination for international sports and wellness tourism. With athletes, coaches, and supporters coming from across Asia, the championship is expected to give a boost to the local economy, hospitality sector, and tourism industry. Hotels, restaurants, and local businesses are already preparing to welcome visitors who are here to enjoy both the event and the scenic beauty of Fujairah.
As the championship unfolds over the next two days, the spotlight will be on the Zayed Sports Complex — and on Fujairah itself — as a vibrant meeting place for cultures, traditions, and sporting talent from all over Asia.
