Ruben Amorim conveyed mixed feelings after Manchester United's 1-1 draw with West Ham on Thursday, a sentiment echoed by supporters and former captain Roy Keane.
Keane voiced his discontent, stating: “I wouldn’t put my faith in this team. Offensively they can score, yet defensively and in midfield, there are major concerns.”
Though visibly upset, Amorim maintained a composed demeanor, steering clear of another emotional outburst like the one following January's defeat to Brighton. He aims to tackle squad issues at Carrington, believing in-game discussions yield little.
The equalizer by Soungoutou Magassa in the 83rd minute revealed persistent weaknesses. Amorim admitted to defensive errors on set pieces and second balls, especially against taller teams. West Ham's Nuno Espirito Santo deemed the goal a “deserved” reward for his struggling side.
Keane pointed out a troubling trend: United frequently demonstrates promise but falters in crucial match moments. Points were lost in matches against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, and Everton, leaving the team lingering mid-table, eight points shy of the top five.
Nonetheless, Amorim remains optimistic, asserting that United isn't regressing. “We have been inconsistent. After 83 minutes, we were in control, but we need greater focus,” he noted.
Looking ahead, United will face bottom-placed Wolves on Monday, hoping to break the streak of late-game disappointments and regain their Premier League momentum.
