A shooting incident in Lawrenceville, Georgia, has claimed the life of an Indian national among three other victims, as confirmed by the Indian mission in Atlanta. Authorities suspect a family dispute as the underlying cause behind this tragic event, which took place early Friday morning.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed sorrow over the incident via social media, indicating that the suspect has been apprehended and that support is being offered to the affected family.
The accused, Vijay Kumar (51), from Atlanta, is now facing multiple serious charges. Local law enforcement has reported that he is in custody while the investigation continues.
The deceased have been identified as Meemu Dogra (43), Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). Investigators found all four adults had suffered fatal gunshot wounds inside the residence.
Police received an emergency call at approximately 2:30 am (local time) from a home on Brook Ivy Court, where officers discovered the four victims shortly after their arrival.
Remarkably, three children were also present during the shooting. They reportedly took refuge in a closet to stay safe, with one child managing to dial 911 and provide crucial information that sped up the response time of emergency services.
Fortunately, the children were unharmed and were later taken into the care of a family member, according to police reports.
The suspect has been charged with multiple counts, including murder and aggravated assault, as the investigation unfolds, revealing no further details about the motive at this time.
