Austin, Texas: Firefly Aerospace, a Texas-based space startup, has successfully raised $175 million in a late-stage funding round, which was led by RPM Ventures. This latest funding has placed the company’s valuation at over $2 billion. The round also saw participation from existing investors, as well as new entities such as GiantLeap Capital and Human Element.
This influx of capital comes at a time when venture capital firms have been increasing their investments in rocket manufacturers and satellite developers. This shift in investment trends has been highlighted in a recent report by Seraphim Space, which noted that more funds are being directed into the traditionally capital-intensive space sector.
Firefly Aerospace, known for producing small and medium-sized launch vehicles, caters to the growing demand for commercial space launches into Earth’s orbit. In addition to its launch vehicles, Firefly also offers on-orbit services via its Elytra line of orbital vehicles. These vehicles support a variety of services, including satellite hosting, rideshare missions, delivery services, and spacecraft servicing, allowing the company to expand its scope in the space industry.

The startup is also preparing for its inaugural mission to the Moon, which will be part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Service initiative. The mission, dubbed Blue Ghost, is scheduled for later this year and marks a significant milestone for the company in its pursuit of deep-space exploration.
Firefly intends to utilize the funds from this Series D round to expand its operational capabilities. This includes increasing the market reach of its Elytra spacecraft, advancing the full-scale production of its Alpha rocket, and expediting the hardware qualification for new vehicles currently in development. The company is also gearing up for multiple launches of its Alpha rocket, having secured contracts with major players such as Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, and NASA.
In addition, Firefly is collaborating with Northrop Grumman to develop a medium-sized launch vehicle, further solidifying its position in the competitive space industry. This ongoing innovation and development reflect Firefly Aerospace’s commitment to contributing to the evolving landscape of commercial space exploration.
