This special recognition was given as part of FAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations, which highlight the organization’s commitment to fighting hunger, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainability. The event featured a video presentation that showcased Sheikha Fatima’s remarkable work in shaping policies that uplift women and improve their rights. Her efforts have played a key role in advancing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women in the UAE and beyond.

The video also emphasized Sheikha Fatima’s dedication to addressing global challenges like poverty, hunger, and climate change. Through her leadership, she has supported several important programs aimed at helping women gain better access to essential resources and opportunities.

During the ceremony, Kian Akram Al Jaf, Head of Mission of the FAO Sub-regional Office for the GCC and Yemen, highlighted the UAE’s strong commitment to sustainable development. He acknowledged the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose vision continues to inspire progress in agriculture and food security. He also mentioned the Sheikh Zayed Centre for Media and Knowledge at FAO’s headquarters in Rome, which stands as a symbol of the UAE’s collaboration with FAO.

On behalf of Sheikha Fatima, Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, accepted the award. She spoke about Sheikha Fatima’s leadership in national development, stating that the UAE has always been dedicated to the welfare of its citizens and global progress. She emphasized that Sheikha Fatima has been a guiding force behind women’s empowerment, ensuring that they actively participate in different areas of society and the economy.

The award ceremony took place at the General Women’s Union headquarters in Abu Dhabi and was attended by high-ranking officials, dignitaries, and diplomatic representatives. The event was organized in partnership with UN Women, further strengthening the UAE’s collaboration with international organizations to promote gender equality and sustainability.

Dr. Mouza Al Shehhi, Director of the UN Women Liaison Office for the GCC, praised Sheikha Fatima’s contributions, calling her a key figure in the global fight for women’s rights. She noted that Sheikha Fatima’s leadership has influenced policies in the UAE and inspired worldwide efforts to tackle environmental and social challenges. She also highlighted the UAE’s commitment to supporting women as leaders in sustainable development.

For 80 years, FAO has been working to achieve global development goals, particularly in food security, climate action, and gender equality. This celebration reinforced the importance of women’s role in overcoming these challenges. The UAE’s partnership with FAO serves as an example of how international cooperation can create a better and more sustainable future for all.
