In pursuit of innovative transportation solutions, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed two significant memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF). These initiatives align with RTA's strategic plans to engage with premier companies and adopt cutting-edge practices.
The first MoU involves a partnership with UK-based Urban.Mass to develop the Floc Duo Rail system, a novel transportation concept resembling a "platoon of pods." This driverless, electric-powered system operates on an elevated track, eliminating the need for extensive earthworks, costly tunnels, and large stations. It provides an efficient and swift double-track system that adjusts capacity to demand, reducing unnecessary energy consumption. The Floc Duo Rail system is designed for zero carbon emission and features solar panels on its bridge for sustainable energy. The scalability of this system allows it to serve small local areas or entire city-wide networks.
The second MoU is with US-based Rail Bus Inc. for the development of a solar-powered rail bus system. This innovative system utilizes small, driverless electric vehicles on elevated tracks, offering a lightweight and flexible solution that can be retrofitted into various environments. The Rail Bus system emphasizes environmental friendliness and operational efficiency, significantly reducing the cost of track infrastructure compared to traditional metro systems.
Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of the Rail Agency at RTA, highlighted that these agreements represent a strategic move to incorporate sophisticated and advanced transportation practices. The partnerships aim to transform urban mobility in Dubai through sustainability and technological innovation.
The Floc Duo Rail system, developed by Urban.Mass, is poised to offer a dynamic and adaptive solution for urban transportation needs. Its driverless pods, moving on elevated tracks, are designed to efficiently match capacity to demand, ensuring optimal energy consumption. Ricky Sandhu, CEO of Urban.Mass, expressed the partnership as a commitment to combat climate change, paving the way for sustainable mass transit solutions.
On the other hand, Rail Bus Inc.'s solar-powered rail bus system introduces small, driverless electric vehicles on elevated tracks, reducing infrastructure costs and emphasizing environmental sustainability. Hatim Ibrahim, CEO of Rail Bus Inc., highlighted the partnership as an opportunity to set new benchmarks in sustainable mobility tailored to Dubai's unique needs.
These initiatives underline Dubai's commitment to fostering a greener and more efficient future in urban transportation. The projects emphasize cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and adaptability, marking a significant leap toward transforming urban mobility in the city.
