Drone Footage Emerges as Russia Claims Attack on Putin’s Home

On Wednesday night, Russia's defense ministry made headlines by releasing footage of a downed drone, purportedly launched by Ukraine to target President Vladimir Putin’s home in the northwest Novgorod region. The ministry's video reveals the drone lying dormant in the snow-covered forest, claimed to serve as evidence of the alleged operation.

This announcement follows Moscow’s assertions of a large-scale UAV attack on the presidential estate, involving 91 long-range drones. The Kremlin called the drone strikes a “targeted, meticulously planned operation conducted in phases.” Nevertheless, Moscow has yet to provide concrete proof to validate these claims, asserting all drones were intercepted prior to causing any harm.

In response, Ukraine has categorically denied these allegations, branding them as “lies” and “fabrications” without credible evidence. Kyiv officials maintained there was nothing to suggest involvement in attacks on Putin’s residence. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed these claims as a “complete fabrication,” urging international partners to independently verify the facts. Zelensky also mentioned coordination between Ukraine's negotiators and their American counterparts, concluding the event seemed orchestrated.

The Kremlin condemned the alleged drone strike as a “terrorist act” and a “direct attack” on President Putin, highlighting the seriousness it ascribes to the claim. Russian authorities acknowledged their struggle to produce definitive evidence since all drones reported were intercepted and destroyed in flight.

Further complicating the narrative, former U.S. President Donald Trump shared that Putin had informed him about the supposed attack. Trump criticized Ukraine’s offensive posture but noted that targeting Putin’s residence marks a troubling escalation from typical hostilities.

As tensions escalate between Russia and Ukraine, the conflict rages on. Meanwhile, peace talks continue, with President Zelensky set to meet allies in France on January 6 to advance discussions.
