DP World UAE Sets Record, Handles Over 1 Million Vehicles in 2024

DP World achieved a major milestone in 2024 by handling a record-breaking 1.3 million vehicles across its terminals in Dubai. This marks a huge 53.6% jump from last year, making it the highest number of vehicles ever handled by the company.

The Jebel Ali Port, DP World’s largest and most important terminal, was responsible for the majority of this figure, managing nearly 960,000 vehicles. This reinforces its reputation as the top automotive hub in the region. The rest of the vehicles were processed at Mina Al Hamriya and Mina Rashid.

This remarkable growth highlights the booming automotive industry and DP World’s key role in managing vehicle imports and exports in the Gulf. Among the company’s biggest trading partners, China led the way, accounting for almost 25% of the total vehicle volume. Japan, Korea, and India also played significant roles in contributing to this record-breaking achievement.

The global car industry is going through big changes, especially with the rapid rise of electric vehicles (EVs). Experts predict that by 2036, EVs will be more common than traditional fuel-powered cars. Since China produces over half of the world’s electric vehicles, supply chains are evolving to support this shift towards greener and more sustainable transportation. Alongside EVs, hybrid cars, which combine electric power with traditional fuel engines, are also becoming increasingly popular. These changes offer great opportunities for cities like Dubai to play a bigger role in the future of the automobile industry.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director of DP World GCC, highlighted Dubai’s growing importance as a global car hub. He stated, “Dubai’s strong position in the automotive industry benefits not just Asia and Europe, but also strengthens our local economy. This sector drives economic growth by creating jobs, attracting foreign investments, and boosting local businesses. At DP World, we are fully committed to building the right infrastructure to support this expansion. Our world-class logistics centers, like Jebel Ali Port, and free trade zones, like Jafza – which houses more than 930 companies related to automobiles and spare parts – are crucial to our global strategy.”

This vision aligns with global market predictions, which estimate that passenger car sales will rise from 94.7 million in 2024 to 109 million by 2030. With Jebel Ali Port’s massive capacity of one million car equivalent units, the construction of the world’s largest car market covering 20 million square feet, and the expansion of Mina Al Hamriya, DP World is ensuring that Dubai remains ready for the growing demand. These efforts also support the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to double the city’s economy in the coming years.
